AMPK/GLUT4 Pathway

Meaning

The AMPK/GLUT4 pathway describes the coordinated action of AMP-activated protein kinase and Glucose Transporter Type 4 in cellular glucose regulation. AMPK, a cellular energy sensor, activates during low energy states. This prompts GLUT4, a glucose transport protein, to move to the cell membrane, facilitating glucose uptake into cells, primarily muscle and fat, independent of insulin.
