Allostatic Load Mitigation

Meaning

This clinical concept refers to the systematic reduction of the cumulative physiological wear and tear resulting from chronic stress exposure. Allostatic load represents the total burden on the body’s regulatory systems, including the HPA axis, cardiovascular, and metabolic systems. Mitigation efforts are specifically designed to decrease the sustained overactivity or underactivity of these systems, thereby preserving long-term tissue and organ function.
