Allostatic Load Impact

Meaning

The cumulative physiological toll resulting from chronic or repeated activation of the body’s stress response systems, leading to wear and tear on various organ systems, often involving endocrine imbalances. This impact reflects the system’s inability to return to homeostasis following repeated challenges. Clinically, it manifests as reduced physiological reserve and increased susceptibility to disease. We observe changes in cortisol output, inflammatory markers, and cardiovascular reactivity as indicators of this load.
