Allostasis Adaptation

Meaning

Allostasis Adaptation refers to the body’s dynamic process of achieving stability through physiological change, specifically in response to chronic or repeated environmental and psychological stressors. Unlike the fixed set-points of homeostasis, allostasis involves actively adjusting multiple regulatory systems, such as the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the autonomic nervous system, to meet persistent demands. This essential biological process allows the organism to survive and function effectively under varying conditions.
