Aldosterone Suppression

Meaning

Aldosterone Suppression is a targeted clinical intervention or physiological state where the secretion or action of the mineralocorticoid hormone aldosterone is intentionally reduced or naturally inhibited. Aldosterone, produced by the adrenal cortex, is critical for regulating sodium and potassium balance and blood pressure. Clinically, suppression is often sought to manage conditions like primary hyperaldosteronism or resistant hypertension, which are characterized by excessive fluid retention and electrolyte imbalance.
