Aldosterone-Producing Cell Clusters

Meaning

Aldosterone-Producing Cell Clusters, often abbreviated as APCCs, are microscopic collections of adrenal cortical cells, typically found within the zona glomerulosa of the adrenal gland, that autonomously secrete the mineralocorticoid hormone aldosterone. These clusters are distinct from larger, macroscopic adrenal adenomas and represent a non-adenomatous cause of primary aldosteronism.
