Aldosterone-Producing Adenoma

Meaning

An Aldosterone-Producing Adenoma (APA) is a small, benign tumor, or nodule, located within the adrenal cortex that autonomously and excessively secretes the mineralocorticoid hormone aldosterone. This uncontrolled hormone release is a common, surgically correctable cause of Primary Aldosteronism, a condition associated with severe hypertension. APAs are also frequently referred to in clinical practice as Conn’s syndrome when they cause the full spectrum of clinical symptoms.
