Albumin Binding Kinetics

Meaning

Albumin binding kinetics refers to the quantitative study of the rate and strength at which steroid hormones, and other lipophilic molecules, reversibly associate with and dissociate from the circulating plasma protein albumin. This interaction is characterized by a relatively low affinity but high capacity for hormone binding. The kinetic properties determine the portion of hormones rapidly available for tissue uptake, distinguishing it from the high-affinity binding to SHBG.
