AgRP Neurons

Meaning

Agouti-related peptide (AgRP) neurons are specific nerve cells located within the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus. These neurons co-express and release AgRP and Neuropeptide Y (NPY), potent neuropeptides stimulating appetite and reducing energy expenditure. Their activation drives a strong feeding response, forming a fundamental component of the brain’s hunger circuitry.
