Aging Hormones

Meaning

This term refers to the collection of endogenous hormones whose circulating levels or functional efficacy typically decline with advancing chronological age, contributing significantly to age-related physiological changes. Examples include the progressive reduction in growth hormone, DHEA, melatonin, and sex steroid hormones like testosterone and estrogen. These hormonal shifts correlate with decreased metabolic rate, loss of muscle mass, diminished bone density, and changes in cognitive function.
