Aggregated Peptides

Meaning

Aggregated peptides refer to a collection of individual peptide molecules that have self-assembled into larger, often insoluble, ordered or disordered structures. This phenomenon typically results from misfolding or conformational changes in the peptide’s native structure, leading to the formation of intermolecular interactions that drive their assembly into fibrils, oligomers, or amorphous aggregates. These altered structures frequently lose their original biological function and can acquire new, detrimental properties within a biological system.
