Advanced Glycation Endproducts

Meaning

Advanced Glycation Endproducts, or AGEs, are harmful compounds formed when proteins or lipids become non-enzymatically glycated after exposure to sugars. These molecules accumulate in tissues throughout the body, acting as a key mechanism of cellular and tissue aging. High levels of AGEs are strongly implicated in the pathology of age-related decline and various chronic conditions, particularly those affecting vascular and endocrine health.
