Adrenal Variability

Meaning

Adrenal Variability refers to the natural, predictable, and adaptive fluctuations in the secretory output of adrenal hormones, most notably cortisol, over a 24-hour period and in response to environmental or psychological stimuli. This concept emphasizes the dynamic nature of the HPA axis, which is designed to constantly adjust hormone levels to meet changing physiological demands. Clinically, a healthy, robust variability is a key indicator of endocrine resilience and a functional stress response system. Deviations from this normal rhythm are often indicative of chronic stress or HPA axis dysregulation.
