Adrenal Strain

Meaning

Adrenal strain refers to a state where the adrenal glands, small endocrine organs situated atop the kidneys, experience prolonged or excessive demand for hormone production, particularly cortisol. This condition does not imply physical damage to the glands but rather a functional overexertion in response to chronic stressors. It describes a spectrum of adrenal function ranging from hyper-responsiveness to eventual reduced output.
