Adrenal Output Modulation

Meaning

The clinical and physiological process of intentionally adjusting or regulating the secretory rhythm and magnitude of hormones produced by the adrenal glands, primarily cortisol and DHEA. This therapeutic strategy aims to restore a balanced hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis function, which is often disrupted by chronic stress or age-related changes. Modulation focuses on optimizing the diurnal cortisol curve and the appropriate ratios of glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids. A primary goal is to mitigate the detrimental effects of sustained cortisol excess or deficiency on systemic physiology.
