Adrenal Fatigue Potential

Meaning

The physiological susceptibility of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis to developing chronic stress-induced dysregulation is termed Adrenal Fatigue Potential. This term describes the inherent or acquired vulnerability of an individual’s stress response system to persistent allostatic load. It is a clinical concept representing the risk of developing a pattern of non-Addisonian, sub-optimal adrenal hormone output, particularly cortisol, in response to chronic stressors. This potential is often assessed through diurnal cortisol rhythm analysis and patient symptomology, guiding preventative and restorative health strategies.
