Adrenal Disruption

Meaning

Adrenal Disruption describes a functional imbalance within the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, rather than a primary disease of the adrenal glands themselves. This state involves an atypical, non-optimal production or regulation of glucocorticoids, particularly cortisol, in response to chronic physiological or psychological stressors. It is often characterized by a shift in the diurnal cortisol rhythm or an inadequate reserve capacity of the adrenal cortex. Clinically, this disruption is viewed as a spectrum of stress-induced hormonal maladaptation affecting systemic homeostasis.
