Adiposity and Inflammation

Meaning

Adiposity and inflammation describes the interconnected physiological state where excess adipose tissue, particularly visceral fat, actively functions as an endocrine organ, contributing to chronic low-grade systemic inflammation. Adipocytes release pro-inflammatory cytokines, known as adipokines, which signal throughout the body and disrupt metabolic harmony. This hormonal and immune dysregulation is a central clinical feature in the development of cardiometabolic risk and systemic disease progression.
