Adipose Tissue RAAS

Meaning

The Adipose Tissue Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System is a localized, functional equivalent of the systemic RAAS that operates within fat cells and surrounding tissue. This system contributes significantly to local and systemic metabolic regulation, moving beyond the traditional view of fat as a simple energy store. It involves the synthesis and release of key RAAS components, such as angiotensinogen and angiotensin II, directly from the adipocytes. This localized hormonal network is increasingly recognized as a crucial player in the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease.
