Adipose Dysfunction

Meaning

Adipose dysfunction describes a pathological state where adipose tissue, commonly known as body fat, loses its metabolic integrity and healthy function, irrespective of its total quantity. This condition signifies a compromised capacity of fat cells to safely store excess energy as lipids and to appropriately regulate systemic metabolism through the secretion of various adipokines. Instead of acting as a beneficial metabolic buffer, dysfunctional adipose tissue becomes a source of inflammation and metabolic perturbation, contributing to adverse health outcomes.
