Adipokines

Meaning

Adipokines are biologically active signaling molecules, specifically peptide hormones and cytokines, secreted by adipose tissue, commonly known as body fat. These endocrine factors circulate throughout the body, acting as critical communicators between fat stores and other vital organs like the liver, muscle, and brain. They are central to the complex regulatory network governing energy homeostasis, metabolism, and systemic inflammation.
