Adipogenesis

Meaning

Adipogenesis is the fundamental biological process of cell differentiation by which precursor cells, known as pre-adipocytes, mature into functional adipocytes, or fat cells. This essential process is integral to the body’s energy homeostasis, serving as the primary mechanism for storing excess energy in the form of triglycerides within adipose tissue. Clinically, understanding the regulation of adipogenesis is critical because excessive or dysfunctional fat cell production is a core driver of metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and chronic systemic inflammation, directly impacting hormonal health.
