Adipocytokines

Meaning

Adipocytokines are a specialized class of signaling molecules, including both hormones and cytokines, that are secreted directly by adipose tissue, commonly known as body fat. Adipose tissue is now accurately recognized as a dynamic endocrine organ, extending far beyond its traditional role as a simple energy storage depot. These molecules actively regulate numerous systemic functions, profoundly influencing metabolic balance, systemic inflammation, and the body’s sensitivity to insulin.
