Adipocyte Insulin Resistance

Meaning

Adipocyte insulin resistance describes a diminished responsiveness of fat cells, known as adipocytes, to the hormone insulin. Normally, insulin signals adipocytes to absorb glucose from the bloodstream for energy storage and to suppress the release of stored fats; however, when resistance develops, these critical metabolic functions become impaired, leading to dysregulation of lipid metabolism and glucose homeostasis.
