Adipocyte Insulin Resistance

Meaning

Adipocyte Insulin Resistance signifies a specific metabolic dysfunction where the fat cells, or adipocytes, exhibit a blunted or impaired responsiveness to the hormone insulin. This cellular resistance prevents the normal, insulin-mediated uptake of glucose for storage and simultaneously inhibits the antilipolytic action of insulin. Consequently, the adipocytes fail to properly manage lipid storage and glucose homeostasis. This local cellular failure contributes significantly to systemic metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes development.
