Adipo-Cytokines

Meaning

Adipo-cytokines, also known as adipokines, are a diverse group of biologically active signaling proteins secreted by adipose tissue, or fat cells. These molecules function as hormones, influencing a wide array of physiological processes, including metabolism, inflammation, appetite regulation, and insulin sensitivity throughout the body. Key examples include leptin, adiponectin, resistin, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and interleukin-6 (IL-6), each possessing distinct roles in systemic regulation.
