Acromegalic Cardiomyopathy

Meaning

Acromegalic Cardiomyopathy refers to the spectrum of cardiac structural and functional abnormalities that develop as a direct complication of chronic, pathological excess of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). This serious condition represents the leading cause of increased morbidity and all-cause mortality in patients diagnosed with acromegaly. The disease is characterized by distinct changes in the heart muscle that progressively compromise cardiovascular performance. Early recognition and aggressive hormonal control are paramount for mitigating the severe long-term impact on cardiac health.
