Accelerated Approval

Meaning

A regulatory pathway established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) designed to expedite the availability of new drugs intended to treat serious conditions and fill an unmet medical need. This mechanism allows for approval based on a surrogate endpoint that is reasonably likely to predict a clinical benefit, rather than waiting for the definitive clinical endpoint data. It is a critical pathway in areas like oncology and, increasingly, in hormonal therapies for rare or severe endocrine disorders.
