A1C Test

Meaning

The A1C test, formally known as the hemoglobin A1c or glycated hemoglobin test, is a crucial diagnostic tool in endocrinology that provides an average measure of blood glucose control over the preceding two to three months. This test quantifies the percentage of hemoglobin proteins in the red blood cells that have glucose molecules chemically attached, a process termed glycation. It is widely used for screening, diagnosing, and monitoring diabetes mellitus, a significant hormonal and metabolic condition.
