Meaning

11β-HSD1, or 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1, is a microsomal enzyme primarily responsible for the local regeneration of active glucocorticoids from their inactive forms within specific tissues. This enzyme catalyzes the conversion of inert cortisone into its biologically active counterpart, cortisol, a potent stress hormone and metabolic regulator in humans.
