Β-Glucan

Meaning

Β-Glucan, or Beta-Glucan, is a diverse group of non-starch polysaccharides composed of D-glucose monomers linked by beta-glycosidic bonds, found in the cell walls of yeast, fungi, and various cereal grains like oats and barley. These complex carbohydrates are recognized for their potent biological activities, particularly their capacity to modulate the immune system and function as a soluble dietary fiber. Their structural variability dictates their specific physiological effect.
